What Is Dental Bonding?

Also known as teeth bonding, dental bonding at Chino Aesthetic Dental is a routine procedure to repair or restore a damaged tooth. It works by applying a tooth-colored material over the damaged part of your tooth. Once this resin has been hardened with a special light, the result is a restored tooth that looks and feels like it once did.
In addition, dental bonding can be an effective way to improve the shape of your teeth. Patients often use this procedure to reduce the spacing between some of their teeth or to increase the size of one or more teeth for a fuller look. As one of the most adaptable dental procedures, bonding is popular among patients of all ages.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

Health & Cosmetic All-In-One

Dental bonding can improve the appearance of your teeth, but it also can protect them from further damage.

Easy & Affordable

Bonding is a straightforward procedure that patients can be comfortable in from start to finish, while also having a more affordable price tag.

Faster Repair

Bonding is done in our office with ready materials, and you don’t need to wait for a lab to procure anything unlike with veneers or crowns.

Natural Look

We use tooth-colored resin for dental bonding to ensure the treated teeth look natural and don’t stand out. We choose a resin material individually for each patient to provide optimized color matching.

Is Dental Bonding Right for Me?

If you want to restore a damaged tooth or improve the shape of some teeth, dental bonding could be what you’ve been looking for. Patients especially prefer this procedure when they have time constraints on getting their smile into shape. Since the entire process can take a mere hour or two from start to finish, it is perfect for those who need quick repairs to teeth.
For patients who want a more stain-resistant tooth restoration, we might recommend dental veneers or dental crowns. Likewise, dental bonding can occasionally chip or break, making it more ideal for short-term cosmetic changes or for repairing teeth toward the front of the mouth.
When you come in for your appointment, we can examine your teeth and listen to your expectations. Based on these, we can discuss with you the benefits or limitations of dental bonding for your individual situation, along with alternative procedures that may match your goals. In every case, we work closely with you to find the right cosmetic solution that will leave you feeling great about your smile!

What Is the Process Like?

Compared to other tooth restoration procedures, dental bonding is quite quick and straightforward. In many cases, the entire process can be completed in a single visit to our office.
First, we prepare the chosen teeth. If you have a cavity in a target tooth, we will first need to take care of it. In most cases, you won’t even need any anesthetic to stay comfortable throughout this process. However, if significant shape altering is needed, we can provide local anesthetic to keep your comfortable. Before your procedure, we can discuss every element of it with you to ensure your feel comfortable throughout it.
When then choose a resin that best matches your teeth’s natural color and apply the material to your tooth. We carefully smooth it into a shape that matches how you want your tooth to look. Once the shape is right, we can then harden it with a light. Once the resin has fully hardened, we may make a few minor shaping and polishing adjustments to get it looking and feeling perfect.
From start to finish, the entire process takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth. If you plan to have a large number of teeth treated, you may prefer to break your treatment up into two visits.
